Monitoring

Human Epididymis Protein 4 (HE4) is a secreted protein that is over expressed in high levels in women with ovarian cancer and physicians can order a diagnostic test to help assess and monitor a patient’s HE4 levels. The diagnostic test is called HE4 EIA. It is cleared by the FDA for use to monitor recurrence or progressive disease in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer.

The HE4 EIA is an enzyme immunometric assay for the quantitative determination of HE4 in human serum.
The assay is to be used as an aid in monitoring recurrence or progressive disease in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer. Serial testing for patient HE4 assay values should be used in conjunction with other clinical methods used for monitoring ovarian cancer.

Add HE4 Whenever CA125 is Used to Better Monitor Ovarian Cancer

  • HE4 increases by 25% or greater in 60% of patients with disease13
  • HE4 remains constant in 75% of patients without progression of disease13
  • HE4 may be used in place of or in addition to CA125 along with the other clinical methods used for monitoring epithelial ovarian cancer.13
